SYMPTOMS

In Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2 (SP2), when you receive an error message in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) or through Web Distributed Authoring Version (WebDAV), the error message may not be displayed correctly in a double-byte character set (DBCS) environment.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by Exchange 2000 Server SP2. OWA uses UTF-8 encoding to send the DBCS error message, but OWA does not send the character set (charset) information in the error message. This problem can occur if the Web browser displays the error message in another type of encoding, such as Shift-JIS.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
