SUMMARY

This step-by-step article describes how to synchronize an Office XP client computer with the current administrative installation point. You must perform this process after you update the administrative installation point.

WARNING: After you install an update to your administrative installation point, any workstation that was originally installed from this administrative installation point will not use this administrative installation for actions such as repairing Office or adding new features, until you complete the steps in the "How to Update Your Workstations" section of this article.

How to Update Your Workstations

To update each client computer, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

To synchronize the client installation, so that it acknowledges the updated administrative installation point, follow these steps on the client computer:
  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following command
    msiexec /i admin path\[*.msi] reinstall=all reinstallmode=vomus
where admin path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP)

-and-

where [*.msi file] is the MSI database package for the Office XP product "ProPlus.msi", "Pro.msi", or "Std.msi" (type without quotation marks).

Method 2

To interactively update a workstation, run Setup.exe from the updated administrative installation of Office. If you want to run Setup in Quiet mode, use one of the following command-line switches: /q or /qn.

For example, the command line would be:
Setup.exe /q /L*V C:\update.txt
