The HCL lists the computers and computer hardware components that have been extensively tested with Windows products for stability and compatibility. The Microsoft Product Support Services group uses the HCL to identify computers and components that are supported for use with the Windows operating system.
Before you install Microsoft Windows XP on a computer, check the HCL to make sure that the computer is certified by Microsoft as Windows-compliant.
