Adding a Second Mylex AcceleRAID SCSI Controller Causes an Error Message

SYMPTOMS

If you add a second Mylex AcceleRAID controller to a Windows XP-based computer, you receive the following error message on a blue screen after the Found New Hardware Wizard starts:
STOP 0x000000D1 (0xf8a5802c, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0xf847f8a4)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
When you receive this error message, the computer stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

The original Dac2w2k.sys driver that is included with Windows XP does not work if multiple controllers are installed. The controllers that are affected by this issue include:
  • Mylex AcceleRAID 160
  • Mylex AcceleRAID 170
  • Mylex AcceleRAID 352
  • Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000
  • Mylex eXtremeRAID 3000

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows XP does not currently support using two of the controllers that are listed in this article in the same computer.
