Ntbackup.exe Generates an Error Message About the DO_NOT_REMOVE_NtFrs_Preinstall_Directory Folder

SYMPTOMS

When you back up the System State by using the Backup tool (Ntbackup.exe), the following error message may be recorded in the Backup log:

Error: You do not have permission to access portions of System State\SysVol\c:\winnt\sysvol\domain\DO_NOT_REMOVE_NtFrs_PreInstall_Directory. Please see the owner or administrator to get permission.

The DO_NOT_REMOVE_NtFrs_PreInstall_Directory folder should be skipped by Ntbackup. However, there are certain circumstances in which Ntbackup tries to back up this folder. This error does not jeopardize the integrity of the backup.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
