IntelliPoint 4.0: Error Messages When You Install IntelliPoint Software

When you attempt to install Microsoft IntelliPoint version 4.0, you may experience one of the following behaviors:

• You are cannot remove the Logitech MouseWare program, and you receive the following error message:
  NT5 not supported.
• You attempt to remove the Logitech MouseWare program before you install IntelliPoint. However, when you restart the computer, you receive a message that states that Lmouse.vxd cannot be loaded.
• When you attempt to install IntelliPoint 4.0 on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer, you receive the following error message:
  Error 1450: Insufficient system resources.

This behavior can occur in the following situations:

• You upgrade your computer to a version of Windows with which the Logitech MouseWare Uninstall program is not compatible. For example, Windows XP.
• The removal of the Logitech MouseWare program is incomplete or damaged.

To resolve this issue, manually remove Logitech MouseWare, and then install IntelliPoint. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Step 1: End the EM_EXEC.EXE Process

1. Right-click a blank area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager on the shortcut menu that appears.
2. Click the Processes tab, click EM_EXEC.EXE, and then click End Process.
3. On the Task Manager Warning message that appears, click Yes.
4. Quit Windows Task Manager.

Step 2: Remove MouseWare Files

1. Start Windows Explorer, and then browse to the following folder
   drive:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare
   where drive is the drive on which the MouseWare program is installed.
2. On the File menu, click Delete.
3. On the Confirm Folder Delete message that appears, click Yes. If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the MouseWare folder, click Yes.
4. Quit Windows Explorer.

Step 3: Remove MouseWare Registry Entries

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Navigate to the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, right-click EM_EXEC, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu that appears.
5. On the Confirm Value Delete message that appears, click Yes.
6. Navigate to the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare
   NOTE: The MouseWare folder should be highlighted.
7. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
8. On the Confirm Key Delete message that appears, click Yes.
9. Follow the procedure in steps 6 through 8 to delete the following registry subkeys.
   
   NOTE: Some registry subkeys may not be present. In this case, continue to the next registry subkey.

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LMouFlt2
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\Lmouse
10. View the following registry key, and make sure the UpperFilters value only shows MOUCLASS:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    For example, if you find an LMouFlt2 value in this key, replace the LMouFlt2 value with MouClass, or make sure that MouClass is the only value listed.
11. Quit Registry Editor.

Step 4: Remove Start Menu Items

Remove the Logitech MouseWare menu items from the Start menu. To do this, follow the steps appropriate for your operating system.

Windows XP

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then right-click Logitech MouseWare.
2. On the shortcut menu that appears, click Delete.
3. On the Warning message that appears, click Yes.

Windows 2000

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar & Start Menu.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Advanced.
3. Expand Documents and Settings, expand All Users, expand Start Menu, expand Programs, and then click Logitech MouseWare.
4. On the File menu, click Delete.
5. On the Confirm Folder Delete message that appears, click Yes.
6. On the File menu, click Close.
7. Click OK.

Windows NT 4.0

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.
2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Remove.
3. Click Logitech MouseWare, and then click Remove.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal, click Close, and then click OK.

Step 5: Install IntelliPoint

Install Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.0, and then restart the computer.
