XL2002: PivotTable Does Not Prompt You for a Password Correctly over HTTP

Sintomi

When you use a PivotTable or PivotChart to connect to an Analysis Services 2000 Server OLAP Cube over an HTTP connection, you may receive the following error message instead of the expected password dialog box:
Access Denied

Cause

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  • You are making the connection to the Analysis Server by means of HTTP.
  • The Analysis Server is configured to refuse anonymous connections.
  • The user's current account has no permissions on the Analysis Server.
  • The PivotTable is using the Microsoft OLE DB Provide for OLAP Services 8.0 to connect to the OLAP Cube.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
