Cookies are lost when you use the FILE:// URL method in Window.Open

SYMPTOMS

When a session cookie is required to use an HTML page, the session cookie may be lost if a child window is opened with the Window.Open scripting function and then closed by the user.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the session count is not correctly maintained for the FILE:// URL usage.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the security update that is described in Microsoft security bulletin MS09-014 for Internet Explorer. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
