OL2002: Error Message When You Add an E-mail Recipient from a Message to Your Contacts

SYMPTOMS

If you try to add an e-mail recipient from a message to your Contacts, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the e-mail recipient that you are trying to add is in the same Microsoft Exchange site as your mailbox and if you have the autoReplyMessage option turned on (enabled).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Follow these steps to work around this problem:
  1. In the From field of the message, double-click the name that you want to add to your Contacts.
  2. On the General tab, click Personal Address Book.
  3. Click Save and Close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
