SUMMARY

Microsoft only supports setup and installation for the Crystal Reports products that are included in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, and in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. All other support is provided by the vendor who developed Crystal Reports, not by Microsoft.

Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET is fully integrated in the following versions:

Visual Studio .NET 2008
Visual Studio .NET 2005
Visual Studio .NET 2003

In the rest of this article, "Visual Studio" refers to any version of Visual Studio that is listed here.

Within Visual Studio 2008, Crystal Reports is known as "Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008" and is included in the Professional Edition and higher.

Technical Support

Microsoft does not provide support for the Crystal Reports products that are included in Visual Studio because Crystal Reports are SAP products. Support is only available from the SAP-provided free forum.

Downloading the Crystal Reports that are compatible with Visual Studio 2010

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 no longer includes Crystal Reports in the bundle.

In Visual Studio 2010, to create a Crystal Reports project or Web site or to import existing projects or Web sites that were created by using older versions of Visual Studio or Crystal Reports, you must first install a version of Crystal Reports that is compatible with Visual Studio 2010.

Licensing

Developers can use Crystal Reports for Visual Studio to do the following:

Design unlimited reports for use in Visual Studio applications with the integrated Crystal Reports designer.
Integrate the Crystal Reports runtime engine into thick client Microsoft Windows applications.
- Thick client applications with the embedded runtime engine can be freely redistributed both within and outside the developers’ own organization.
Integrate the Crystal Reports runtime engine into Web applications.
- Web applications with the embedded runtime engine can be freely redistributed within the developers’ own organization.
  - To redistribute Web applications outside the developers’ organization for use by third parties, you must obtain written authorization. For more information, visit the following Business Objects Web site:
