ADMT: "Could Not Verify Auditing and TcpipClientSupport on Domains" Error Message When You Try to Migrate User Accounts

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) version 2, you may receive the following error message:

Could not verify auditing and TcpipClientSupport on domains. Will not be able to migrate Sid's. The specified local group does not exist.

This problem occurs if you try to migrate user accounts from a Windows NT 4.0 domain to a Windows Server domain.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the {SOURCEDOMAIN}$$$ group on the source domain was created as a global group instead of as a local group.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, delete the {SOURCEDOMAIN}$$$ global group on the source domain, and then create the {SOURCEDOMAIN}$$$ local group.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

If the {SOURCEDOMAIN}$$$ group is missing, ADMT prompts the user and automatically creates the group if the user approves. However, if the group exists as a global group, ADMT cannot create the local group with the same name. NOTE: You can install ADMT from the i386\admt folder on the installation media.
