XL2000: Cannot Set the Orientation Property of a Pivot Field

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications to set the Orientation property of a pivot field in a PivotTable, you receive the following error message:
Unable to set the Orientation property of the PivotField class
NOTE: You can successfully set the property manually.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you try to set the Orientation property of a field that contains more than 8,000 unique values.

NOTE: In Excel 2002, before you install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack (SP-2), the error message may occur when a field contains more than 32,500 unique values.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

After the hotfix is installed, the following files will have the listed attributes or later:

   22-MAR-2002  01:13  9.0.0.6221  7,159,853  Excel.exe     
				

NOTE: This problem was fixed in Excel 2002 by the Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
