Error Message When You Try to Use the Find Feature or Import Data in MapPoint or AutoRoute

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Find feature (on the Edit menu, click Find) or you try to import data (on the File menu, click Import Data) in the products that are listed at the beginning of this article, you receive an error message similar to one of the following:
Microsoft MapPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature similar to the following:
   AppName       AppVer       ModName       ModVer       Offset
   --------------------------------------------------------------
   Mappoint.exe  9.0.16.2001  Mappoint.exe  9.0.16.2001  000212fa

Microsoft AutoRoute has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature similar to the following:
   AppName      AppVer       ModName      ModVer       Offset
   ------------------------------------------------------------
   AutoRout.exe  9.0.16.2001  AutoRout.exe  9.0.16.2001  000212fa

This application is unable to continue running. The problem may be the result of low system resources such as memory or disk space. Try closing down other applications, increasing the amount of file space on the disk drive that contains Windows, or adding more memory.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) on your computer is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, update the MDAC components on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/dataaccess
  2. In the Essential Info section, click Data Access Downloads.
  3. On the Data Access Downloads page, click Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC).
  4. Click the latest MDAC version.
  5. Click Download.
  6. In the File Download dialog box, click Open, and then follow the prompts to complete the update of your MDAC components.
