SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Office Document Imaging to recognize text in a TIFF image, and you then save the document, you cannot preview the document in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you save a TIFF file in Office Document Imaging, the optical character recognition (OCR) text is saved within the TIFF file. Windows Picture and Fax Viewer can no longer read the file.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, save the document with a different name after you use the Recognize Text Using OCR command. You can still preview the original document in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
