Error message when you try to view an Encarta Online Deluxe article: "Encarta Online Deluxe does not recognize this Passport sign-in"

SYMPTOMS

After you install one of the Microsoft Encarta programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section and try to access the subscription online services, or you try to access the Online subscription area to view an Encarta Premium article, you may receive the following error message:

Encarta Online Deluxe does not recognize this Passport sign-in.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you try to sign in by using a Windows Live ID other than the Windows Live ID that you used to subscribe to the subscription service. You may also receive this error message if you have not completed the subscription process during the installation of Encarta.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Encyclopedia Standard users

Standard users have no access to Online Deluxe.

Deluxe Encyclopedia Deluxe or Reference Library users

Use the account that you used to Join Club Encarta.

Join or rejoin Club Encarta, and then sign up for the optional Encarta Online Deluxe membership

To join, follow these steps:

Connect to the Internet.
In Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe or Encarta Reference Library, click Join Club Encarta on the Help menu.
Click Join Now!, and then click Sign-up Now!.
Returning users are prompted for their e-mail address.

If you are prompted, type the same e-mail address that you used the last time that you accessed the Club Encarta page.
Verify your personal information, and then click Next.
On the Thanks page, click Sign-in, and then sign in to your account.
This sets your Online Deluxe membership with the current Windows Live ID.

Note If step 6 is not completed, even though you have successfully joined Club Encarta, you will not have access to Encarta Online Deluxe.

Join by activating your subscription in Microsoft Encarta 2007 programs

To activate your MSN Encarta Premium subscription in Microsoft Encarta 2007 and in Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007, follow these steps:

Connect to the Internet.
In Encarta 2007 or in Student with Encarta Premium 2007, click Activate Subscription on the File menu.
Click Join Now!, and then click Sign-up Now!.
Returning users are prompted for their e-mail address.

If you are prompted, type the same e-mail address that you used the last time that you accessed the Encarta Online Deluxe page.
Verify your personal information, and then click Next.
On the Thanks page, click Sign-in, and then sign in to your account.
This sets your Encarta Online Deluxe membership with the current Windows Live ID.

Note If step 6 is not completed, even though you have successfully activated your subscription, you will not have access to Encarta Online Deluxe.

Encarta Online Deluxe refers to the Encarta Online service that is offered throughout the years by various Microsoft Encarta programs. The name Encarta Online Deluxe is accessed by using a method called Club Encarta in Encarta versions 2003, 2004, and 2005. Club Encarta is the method that is used to register the online membership. In Encarta 2006 and Encarta 2007, MSN Encarta Premium replaced the term Encarta Online Deluxe. In the Encarta 2007 versions, Club Encarta is no longer used.

The term Encarta Online Deluxe is no longer used in the retail Microsoft programs. However, the term Encarta Online Deluxe may appear in OEM versions of Microsoft Encarta. Or in the Volume Licensing versions of Microsoft Encarta.

Access to all online subscription areas regardless of the subscription name is available for a limited time only, based on the calendar year. After the expiration date of the subscription is reached, access to the subscription area will not be available.
