When you try to open a Microsoft Office document after you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to view several Korean Web pages that use the "EUC-KR" character set, you may experience a long delay. Note that this problem only occurs on Korean-localized versions of Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition,
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the IsValidCodePage Win32 API returns an incorrect FALSE value during an attempt to load codepage 1250. Codepage 1250 is used to view Web pages that use the "EUC-KR" character set. If you open a Microsoft Office document after this error occurs, you may experience a long delay.
RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
