Windows XP generates a "Stop error code 0x000000A0" error message during hibernation

SYMPTOMS

When you try to hibernate a Windows XP-based computer, you may receive a "Stop 0xA0" error message on a blue screen.

CAUSE

If an integrated device electronics (IDE) time-out occurs during the hibernation process, the Atapi driver does not wait long enough for the primary IDE drive to come online.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
