SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Autoroute, the program prompts you to insert the Microsoft Works Suite 2002 CD-ROM.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you installed Autoroute by means of the typical or minimum Works Suite installation, which includes a standard installation of Autoroute. The standard installation does not copy the map files from the CD-ROM to your hard disk. Only the full installation of Autoroute copies the map files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, perform a full installation of Autoroute. To do this, do one of the following:
  • If Autoroute is not installed on your computer, skip to the "Install Autoroute" section later in this article to install it.

    -or-
  • If Autoroute is installed on your computer, first complete the "Remove Autoroute" procedure to remove it, and then see the "Install Autoroute" section later in this article to reinstall it.

Remove Autoroute

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Autoroute 2002, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Next, click Remove, and then click Next.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. When the removal is complete, click Finish.

Install Autoroute

After you remove Autoroute, or if it was never installed, use either of the following methods to perform a full installation.

Method 1: Autoroute Setup

Follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Microsoft Works Suite 2002 Disc 2 into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type
    drive:\msmap\data.msi
    where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then click OK.
  4. Click Next, and then click Next.
  5. Click Full installation, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Method 2: Works Setup

Follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Microsoft Works Suite 2002 Disc 1 into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type
    drive:\setup.exe
    where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then click OK.
  4. Click Custom.
  5. Quit any open programs, and then click Continue.
  6. Click Microsoft Autoroute, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
