Article ID: 321244 - Last Review: September 27, 2005 - Revision: 3.3 XL2000: Drawings in Files That Are Created in Versions of Excel Before Excel 97 Are Not Displayed CorrectlyThis article was previously published under Q321244 SYMPTOMS Embedded metafiles in Excel 2000 spreadsheets may not be
displayed properly on a Windows 2000-based system. The layering may appear
jumbled, hiding parts of the drawings. If the problem objects are manually
ungrouped, large areas of solid-filled rectangles may be displayed and vertical
lines may no longer be vertical. Additionally, lines may not meet at corners,
but either overlap or cross at inappropriate spots. NOTE: These metafiles display properly in Excel 2000 on Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98-based systems. CAUSE In versions of Excel earlier than Excel 2000, certain
undefined behavior is relied upon in certain metafiles. With Excel 2000's
metafile playback functionality, this undefined behavior no longer functions
correctly, and therefore the metafiles that rely upon this behavior are not
displayed correctly. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the
