Minimum System Requirements for Microsoft Project Standard
The minimum system requirements include the following.
NOTE: A Microsoft Windows XP Professional-based computer with a Pentium III processor and 192 megabytes (MB) of RAM is the recommended system.
- Personal computer with a Pentium 133-megahertz (MHz)-or-higher processor.
- One of the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 98.
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 (SP6) or later.
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional or later.
- The memory requirements are as follows:
- For Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition: 24 MB of RAM for the operating system plus 32 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project Standard.
- For Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation 4.0, or Windows NT Server 4.0: 32 MB of RAM for the operating system plus 32 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project Standard.
- For Windows 2000 Professional: 64 MB of RAM for the operating system plus 32 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project Standard.
- For Windows XP Professional: 128 MB of RAM for the operating system plus 32 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project Standard.
- The available hard disk space requirements are as follows:
- 105 MB for a typical installation. 70 MB of the 105 MB must be on the hard disk where the operating system is installed.
- 55 MB for a typical installation on a computer on which Microsoft Office XP is installed.
- 310 MB for a full installation on a computer on which Office XP is not installed.
- An additional 50 MB for System Files Update if you do not have Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Office XP, Office 2000 SR-1, or Microsoft Project 2000 installed.
NOTE: Hard disk usage varies and depends on configuration.
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- Super VGA-or-higher-resolution monitor.
- Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. (Internet Explorer 5.5 or later is recommended.)
Additional items or services that you must have to use certain features include the following:
- 14,400-baud-or-higher modem.
- Multimedia computer to access sound and other multimedia effects.
- Windows-compatible network and MAPI-compliant mail systems for e-mail project collaboration.
- Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or later, or Oracle 8.x or later, for projects that are stored in databases.
- Microsoft Project Server 2002 for workgroup project collaboration.
- Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider. Local and long distance telephone toll charges may apply.
To use Microsoft Project Web Access, you need a computer with the same configuration that is listed earlier in this article, plus the following:
- 5-15 MB of additional available hard disk space.

- Microsoft Windows 98.
