SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Office XP, Setup may stop running, and you may receive an internal error 2350.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if Windows Installer is outdated.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps to update Windows Installer.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Insert the Office XP installation CD in the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
When the Windows Installer dialog box appears, click Cancel.
Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
In the Search Results dialog box, type one of the following file names in the Search for files or folders named box.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), type instmsi.exe.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows XP, type instmsiw.exe.
In the Look in list, click the drive that contains the Office XP installation CD.
Click Search Now.
To install the updated Windows Installer, double-click one of the following files in the drive:\Files\Support\ folder, where drive is the drive that contains the Office XP installation CD:
- If you are running Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition, double-click Instmsi.exe.
- If you are running Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
When the installation is complete, restart your computer.
Install Office XP.
