"STOP 0x000000C2 BAD_POOL_CALLER" Error Message on a Cluster Node

SYMPTOMS

On one node of a Windows 2000 Cluster, you may receive random Stop error messages similar to the following:

*** STOP 0x000000C2 BAD_POOL_CALLER (0x00000007, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

In this error message, the parameters after "0x00000007" will vary.

This behavior occurs in a scenario where multiple processors run threads that try to free the same memory location. This behavior occurs because of a problem in the Windows disk caching code.

This problem can occur after you install the update that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
