SUMMARY

This article describes how to make a program available to all users if that program was originally installed for only one user.

If a user other than an administrator installs a program, that program may be available only for that user. The examples in this article assume that a program named "Program.exe" was installed under the "User1" account, and that the system drive is drive C.

Locate the User's Programs Folder

  1. Log on as Administrator.
  2. Start Windows Explorer.
  3. Locate the Documents and Settings folder. This folder is located on the system drive. By default, the system drive is drive C.
  4. Expand the Documents and Settings folder.
  5. Find the User1 folder in the list of user folders.
  6. Expand the User1 folder.
  7. Find the Start Menu folder in the User1 folder. Expand the Start Menu folder.

Locate the Program Icon in the User's Programs Folder

  1. In the left pane, click the Programs folder.
  2. In the right pane, locate the shortcut for Program.exe.

    Note that only shortcuts are stored in the Programs folder. The actual programs are installed elsewhere.
  3. Right-click the shortcut for Program.exe, and then click Copy.

Make the Program Available to All Users

  1. In the left pane, locate the All Users folder.
  2. Expand the All Users folder.
  3. Expand the Start Menu folder.
  4. Right-click the Programs folder, and then click Paste.
