SYMPTOMS

When you try to run a PowerPoint presentation that includes an MPEG video, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Create MPEG32 task_CMD is not successful.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, edit the System.ini file to include the MPEG Video setting. To do this, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your operating system.

Method 1: Windows 98

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type sysedit, and then click OK.

    The System Configuration Editor opens.
  3. Click the window that contains the System.ini file.
  4. Locate the [MCI] section, and edit the MPEG entries in this section so that they appear as follows:

       ;MPEGVideo=MPEG16.dll

       MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv

       MPEGVideo2=mciqtz.drv

    NOTE: Do not make changes to any other information that appears in the [MCI] section or elsewhere in the System.ini file.
  5. On the File menu, click Save.
  6. Quit the System Configuration Editor.
  7. Run your PowerPoint presentation.

Method 2: Windows Millennium Edition (ME)

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type drive:\windows\system.ini, and then press ENTER, where drive is the drive on which Windows ME is installed.

    The System.ini file opens in Notepad.
  3. Locate the [MCI] section of the file, and edit the MPEG entries in this section so that they appear as follows:

       ;MPEGVideo=MPEG16.dll

       MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv

       MPEGVideo2=mciqtz.drv

    NOTE: Do not make changes to any other information that appears in the [MCI] section or elsewhere in the System.ini file.
  4. On the File menu, click Save.
  5. Quit Notepad.
  6. Run your PowerPoint presentation.
