SYMPTOMS

When you try to put your computer into a suspended or hibernation state, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The computer stops responding (hangs).
  • The "Preparing to standby..." message appears.
  • The mouse moves but when you click the mouse, you receive no results.
  • The computer cannot be restarted by using the CTRL+ALT+DEL keystroke.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions exist:
  • Your computer is using the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.
  • You have installed the Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) update.
  • You have installed the Windows 2000 Security Rollup Package 1 (SRP1).
  • The IrDA device is turned on.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
