SYMPTOMS

When you have a COM+ server package that allows anonymous authentication and you subscribe to the IComSecurityEvents interface, the COM+ application may experience failfast.

In this scenario, you may receive the following event log entry:
Assertion Failure:
psidDirect
Server Application ID: {EBDE04DF-1549-46F4-A461-08FF6AA39926} Server Application Name: xxxxxxxxx The serious nature of this error has caused the process to terminate. COM+ Services Internals Information: File: .\security.cpp, Line: 818

CAUSE

This issue occurs because you cannot obtain the DirectCaller security identity or the OriginalCaller security identity, and therefore you try to impersonate the client.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
