McAfee On-Access Scanner Causes an Error Message in Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Networks Associates Technology 'McAfee On-Access Scanner' program, you may receive the following error message:

McAfee On-Access Scanner has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If the error message is still displayed and you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. You then see error signature information that may be similar to the following:

   App Name      App Version  Module Name   Module Version  Offset
   -----------------------------------------------------------------
   Mcshield.exe  6.0.0.100    Mcscan32.dll  4.1.4.0         000b0743

CAUSE

This issue may occur if McAfee On-Access Scanner version 6.0 by Networks Associates Technology is installed. This program is not completely compatible with the Microsoft software that is listed at the beginning of this article.
