After you turn on performance-monitoring counters for the AppleTalk service, you may receive the following event log message:
Description: The data buffer created for the "AppleTalk" service in the "C:\WINNT\system32\atkctrs.dll" library is not aligned on an 8-byte boundary. This may cause problems for applications that are trying to read the performance data buffer. Contact the manufacturer of this library or service to have this problem corrected or to get a newer version of this library.
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
This problem is merely an optimization issue with the library. It should cause no loss of functionality. Until an updated library is available, the message can be suppressed by setting the "Configuration Flags" registry value to turn off the data buffer alignment test as described in the following Knowledge Base article.
