SUMMARY

The Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN client provides an extension to the VPN support in Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.

MORE INFORMATION

In Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition, installation of the new client adds a Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN adapter. This adapter is similar to the Microsoft VPN adapter that is already built into the operating system for PPTP support.

In Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, the new client adds RASL2TPM to the list of devices that are available for remote access.

To set up an L2TP/IPSec connection, create a new connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder by using the Make A New Connection wizard. Then select the Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN Adapter (or RASL2TPM for Windows NT 4.0) as the device. Provide the IP address or name of the VPN server instead of a telephone number for this connection.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Developer Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
