Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides the latest updates to Office XP. Office XP SP2 contains significant security enhancements and improvements in stability and performance. Some of the fixes that are included with Office XP SP2 were released earlier as separate updates. This service pack combines the updates into one integrated package and includes a number of other changes that are designed to improve the reliability and performance of your Office XP programs.
This article describes how to download and install the Office XP SP2.
How to download and install Office XP SP2Important Before you install the Office XP SP2 Client Update, install Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). For additional information about how to install Office XP SP-1, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Client updateIf you installed Office XP from a CD-ROM, use one of the following methods:
Office product updates
To have the Office Product Updates Web site detect the required updates that you must install on your computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspxAfter detection is complete, you receive a list of recommended updates for your approval. Click Start Installation to complete the process.
Install only Service Pack 2
To download and install only the SP2 client update, follow these steps:
Administrative updateIf you installed any of the products listed at the beginning of this article from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative public update and deploy that update to your computer.
If you are the server administrator, download the administrative update. To do so, follow these steps:

Known issues when installing Service Pack 2
Setup.ini version is not updated on administrative installationsThe Setup.ini file, located in the Files\Setup folder of an administrative installation, contains a [Product] section that includes product version information. This version information is not updated after you apply SP2 to your administrative installation. This is different from updates for earlier versions of Office.
Restart the computer during installationUnder the following conditions, the installation of Office XP SP2 may require you to restart your computer:
Office SP2 may require Office CD-ROM or network installation locationTo make sure the integrity of your Office installation, the Installation Wizard may require access to the Office product CD or your network installation location during the installation process.
Access 2002 indexes change when upsizing to SQL after install of SP2After upgrading to Office XP Service Pack 2, if the Access Wizard files do not upgrade correctly, descending indexes in Access 2002 that have been upsized to SQL Server are still upsized as ascending indexes.

To determine whether SP2 is installed, start any Office XP program, and then click About Microsoft program on the Help menu. The product version is (SP2) if SP2 is installed.
