OL2002: The Cross-Domain Secure Password Authentication (SPA) Log On Does Not Work for POP3/SMTP Account

SYMPTOMS

If you use a cross-domain log on in a Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) account with Secure Password Authentication (SPA) and the log on does not work, you are never presented with a dialog that prompts you for credentials to permit you to change your domain.

You may also receive the following error message.
Task 'server_name - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC18) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login with Secure Password Authentication. Verify your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
