FIX: Memory Leak in Remote Procedure Call Server Service (RPCSS)

SYMPTOMS

The Svchost.exe that hosts Remote Procedure Call Server Service (RPCSS) may leak memory. This behavior appears in Performance Monitor (PerfMon) as an increase in the private bytes counter.

CAUSE

A COM call, GetProcessInfo, does not free an array that was allocated from the heap.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
