This article describes how to copy the contents of the
Microsoft Encarta CD-ROM to the hard disk of your computer.
Copy Encarta to Windows Vista
To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows XP,
follow these steps:
- Click Start

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - In Control Panel, click Add or Remove
Programs.
- In the Currently Installed Programs list, click the name of your Encarta product.
- Click Change.
- In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.
- Click Modify, and then click Next.
- Click the icon next to Copy to Hard Drive,
and then click Entire feature will be installed on local hard
disk.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete
Setup.
Copy Encarta to Windows XP
To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows XP,
follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel
- In Control Panel, click Add or Remove
Programs.
- In the Currently Installed Programs list, click the name of your Encarta product.
- Click Change.
- In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.
- Click Modify, and then click Next.
- Click the icon next to Copy to Hard Drive,

Copy Encarta to Microsoft Windows 2000
To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows 2000,
follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- In the Currently Installed Programs list, click the name of your Encarta product.
- Click Change.
- In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.
- Click Modify, and then click Next.
- Click the icon next to Copy to Hard Drive,
and then click Entire feature will be installed on local hard
disk.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete
Setup.
Copy Encarta to Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows 98 or
Windows Millennium Edition, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- In the Currently Installed Programs list, double-click the name of your Encarta product.
- In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.
- Click Modify, and then click Next.
- Click the icon next to Copy to Hard Drive,
and then click Entire feature will be installed on local hard
drive.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete
Setup.
Note Copy to Hard Drive copies the whole product to your hard disk.
There is no option to copy only one part, for example, only the Atlas.
Note Copy to Hard Drive does not work from a network installation
except for DVD or Standard versions. Disk-swapping is not supported by the
Network installation.
