How to obtain the latest Windows XP service packHotfix informationMicrosoft has released a hotfix that updates your Gpedit.dll file to version 5.1.2600.1186.Note Beta versions of GPMC that were included in an earlier version of this hotfix installed Gpedit.dll version 5.1.2600.1. If you have installed prerelease versions of GPMC, you must remove GPMC and remove the earlier version of the hotfix before you install this version. A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. How to obtain the latest Windows XP service pack
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2. MORE INFORMATIONOn Windows XP Service Pack 1, GPMC requires that hotfix 326469 is installed. Each language version of GPMC includes the hotfix in that language, and GPMC Setup will only install the hotfix if the language of the operating system matches the language of GPMC. If the languages do not match, GPMC Setup will quit, and you must install the hotfix before you can continue. GPMC requires Gpedit.dll version 5.1.2600.1185. GPMC Setup prompts you to install Windows XP hotfix 326469 if it is not already present. This hotfix updates your version of Gpedit.dll to version 5.1.2600.1186.
