An Access Violation Occurs When You Read an Object SID Property

If you are using Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) to retrieve information from Active Directory, an access violation may occur in your program if you query an unresolvable object SID.

An unresolvable SID occurs if you add domain members to a local group and then later remove the computer from the domain.

This problem occurs because ADSI tries to resolve the domain name on a null pointer.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
