How to Download and Install Office 2000 SP3

Important Before you install the Microsoft Office 2000 SP3 Client Update or the Microsoft Office 2000 SP3 Administrative Update, install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a). For additional information about how to install Office 2000 SR-1a, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Client Update

If you installed Office 2000 from a CD-ROM, you have the following two options:
Use the Office Product Updates Web site to automatically install all of the latest updates, including Office 2000 SP3.
Only install only the Office 2000 SP3 Client Update by following the steps described in the "Office 2000 SP3 Client Update" section of this article.
For both options, you must have your Office 2000 CD-ROM available during the installation process.

Office Product Updates Web Site

To have the Office Product Updates Web site detect the required updates that you must install on your computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx (http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx)
After detection is complete, you receive a list of recommended updates for your approval. Click Start Installation to complete the process.

Known Issues When You Install Office 2000 SP3

Restart the Computer During Installation

Under the following conditions, the installation of Office 2000 SP3 may require you to restart your computer:
You are running Microsoft Windows 2000 and you do not have the most recent version of the Windows Installer. To prevent the computer from restarting, upgrade to Windows Installer 2.0. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4B6140F9-2D36-4977-8FA1-6F8A0F5DCA8F (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4B6140F9-2D36-4977-8FA1-6F8A0F5DCA8F)
The Office Shortcut Bar is running. To prevent the computer from restarting, shut down the Office Shortcut Bar before you apply Office 2000 SP3.
The SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft is installed. To prevent the computer from restarting, shut down the SharePoint Team Services service before you apply Office 2000 SP3.

Office 2000 SP3 May Require the Office CD-ROM or the Network Installation Location

To make sure of the integrity of your Office installation, the Installation Wizard may require access to the Office product CD or your network installation location during the installation process.

Microsoft Access 2000 Indexes Change When You Upsize to SQL After You Install of Office 2000 SP3

After you install Office 2000 SP3, if the Access Wizard files do not upgrade properly, descending indexes in Access 2000 that have been upsized to SQL Server are still upsized as ascending indexes. This issue occurs because the Access Wizard files are unversioned files and they are not updated properly after you install Office 2000 SP3. For additional information about this issue and steps that you can take to avoid it, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
