Article ID: 326774 - Last Review: October 22, 2002 - Revision: 1.1 Editing the File Property Summary Values May Damage TIFF/EX FilesThis article was previously published under Q326774 SYMPTOMS
If you click a TIFF/EX file in Windows Explorer, click Properties on the File menu, click the Summary tab, and then edit the values on the Summary tab, the file may become corrupted. This causes programs that can edit such files not to be able to open the files.
CAUSE
Windows Explorer does not recognize these files as TIFF/EX files. Instead, Windows Explorer behaves as if the TIFF/EX files are TIFF files. If you edit the values on the Summary tab, the files may become corrupted.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not edit the values on the Summary tab for TIFF/EX files.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
