SYMPTOMS

If you send a file from a Pocket PC device as an e-mail attachment, for example a Pocket Word (.psw) file, you may lose information such as inserted drawings or voice data. Files that the Pocket PC receives as e-mail attachments may lose inserted drawing files or voice files.

CAUSE

Pocket PC devices use on-device conversion on documents that are attached to e-mail messages. Because of the design and the operation of these converters, some loss of document content and format may result.

RESOLUTION

To make sure that data inside a file is not deleted, use a compression application such as WinZip before you send files to another Pocket PC user.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design. File conversion occurs both when a file is attached to an e-mail message, and then when that file moves between the Pocket PC device and other platforms. Microsoft Pocket Word converts .doc files to Pocket Word format. That process strips some objects such as audio and pictures from the document.
