This article was previously published under Q329525 SYMPTOMS When you create lines in your Word document that are made
up of repeated non-alphanumeric characters, Word may quit unexpectedly. You may
receive an error message that is similar to one of the following: WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program. An error log is being
created. Microsoft Word for Windows has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
CAUSEThis problem may occur if all the following conditions
exist:
RESOLUTION A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
