You may experience intermittent name resolution issues on a Windows 2000-based computer that is configured as a secondary Domain Name System (DNS) server. The server may resolve some records but not others. When this issue occurs, the following events are logged to the DNS event log:
Event ID: 5501
Event ID: 6524
This problem may occur if the zone transfer times out because of the load on the Windows 2000 DNS server that is acting as the primary for the zone. The primary server is not correctly handling canceled zone transfer requests. Therefore, it sends multiple zone transfer messages to the same socket, and the secondary server loads an incomplete copy of the zone.
Apply the following hotfix to Windows 2000 DNS servers that are acting as standard primaries for one or more zones.
