The "Eject PC" Command May Not Work Intermittently

SYMPTOMS

When you click Eject PC on the Start menu on a laptop computer, you may receive the following error message:
You cannot eject your computer because one of the devices in the docking station,' ECP Printer Port (LPT1)', cannot be stopped because a program is still assessing it.
This problem does not occur if the ECP port is disabled.

CAUSE

In some cases, handles to removable devices are closed asynchronously (the Eject PC command removes devices in the docking station). Because Plug and Play determines whether the handles are closed immediately after requesting closure, you receive the error message.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
