Chart color changes unexpectedly after you apply a design template in PowerPoint 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you insert slides into your PowerPoint presentation and then apply a different design to all the slides in your presentation, the colors of the charts on the slides that you inserted may use a different color from the color of the design template that you applied.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

You insert slides from a template file (.pot).

-and-
The slides that you insert contain OLE chart objects.

-and-
You apply a design template to the slides in your presentation.

-and-

You run a macro that uses the following lines of code to set an object of type Graph.Chart to the chart on your slide:

Dim m_objChart As Graph.Chart
Dim m_objSlide as PowerPoint.Slide

‘Call code that sets the m_objSlide object to the current slide in the presentation

Set m_objChart =  m_objSlide.Shapes(“<ShapeName>”).OLEFormat.Object

In this situation, PowerPoint does not correctly update the colors of the chart on the slides.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this fix should have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, double-click the chart on your slide, and then click an empty area of your slide. When you do so, the color of your chart changes to the correct color as determined by the design template that you applied to your presentation.
