Pass-through authentication to UNC virtual directories can be enabled through the IIS Manager

In Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, pass-through authentication to UNC virtual directories cannot be configured in the Internet Services Manager (ISM). In IIS 6.0, the IIS Manager contains a check box that permits you to omit the user name and password. If no user name and password are specified, IIS uses the requesting user credentials when you are using an authentication method that can perform delegation to authenticate to the remote share.

The metabase key that is used in IIS 5.0 to enable pass-through authentication is UNCAuthenticationPassthrough. In IIS 6.0, this metabase key is not used for UNC authentication. The metabase properties UNCUserName and UNCPassword are still used.

Note Pass-through authentication only works for authentication methods that can perform delegation, such as Basic and Kerberos.
