How To Migrate Software Update Services, SUS to another SUS Server

Migrating SUS Content & Approvals is very simple. This article assumes you have already installed a new SUS Server to migrate SUS Content & Approvals from the old SUS Server.
 
Follow these 4 simple steps viz;
1. Firstly, stop the following services from the Command Prompt;
Net Stop W3SVC [World Wide Web Publishing Service]
Net Stop WUSYNCSERVICE [Software Update Services Synchronization Service]
 
2. Copy all the files and folders under the C:\SUS\Content (where "C\SUS" is the drive where you installed SUS) directory from the source server running SUS to the C:\SUS\Content directory on the target server.
 
3. Copy the following files from the source SUS Server under C:\Inetpub\wwwroot which is the root of the default web site to the target SUS Server.
i. Approveditems.txt
ii. Aucatalog1.cab
iii. Aurtf1.cab
 
4. Open Internet Information Services from Start - Programs - Administrative Tools, right click Default Website - Click New - Click Virtual Directory to create a Virtual Directory by name / alias “Content” and point to the “C:\SUS\content\cabs” where "C\SUS" is the drive where you installed SUS.
 
5. Make sure CabPoolPath location in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\autoupdate\dictionaries\settings.txt" is correct (CabPoolPath, SourceDrive:\SUS\content\cabs).
 
Reboot the server and open http://Your_SUS_Server_IP/SUSadmin to confirm the changes.
