SUMMARY

The "Automatically restart" button in the Startup and Recovery options is grayed out.

SYMPTOMS

When you select Shut down, your Windows PC may restart instead. Also, the "Automatically restart" option may be grayed out in the Advanced, "Startup and Recovery" options.

RESOLUTION

If you are unable to select the "Automatically restart" option in My Computer, Properties, Advanced, "Startup and Recovery" window, you can perform the following solution alternatively:
 
Go to Windows registry.
Navigate to the following registry key:
 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\

Click CrashControl.
In the right pane right-click "AutoReboot".
Select Modify and change the value of the key from 1 to 0.
Save and restart Windows.
