Summary

In Microsoft Project, fixed resource costs are either accrued at the beginning or at the end of a task. If the Prorated option is selected, then the costs are accrued at the beginning of the task. Therefore, there is no way to prorate fixed costs as a task progresses.

Consider the following:

Enter a 10-day duration task and assign a resource.
On the Resource Sheet, assign a standard rate of $10, cost per use of $1000 and, set Accrue At to Prorated.
From the View menu, choose Resource Usage.
From the Format menu, choose Details, then choose Cost.

Note that there is a cost of $1080.00 the first day and $80 a day for the remaining nine days.
Select the resource on the Resource Usage view and select the Edit menu. Choose Form. Change the Accrue At to End.

Note that all of the cost ($1800.00) is applied to the last day.

Project 2013 and 2010 Steps:

1.     Enter a 10-day duration task and assign a resource.

2.     Set the Task Mode to Auto Scheduled

3.     On the View tab, Click Resource Sheet , assign the resource a standard rate of $10, cost per use of $1000, and set Accrue At to Prorated.

4.     From the View tab, Click Resource Usage

5.     From the Format tab, under Details, select the Cost check box.

Note that there is a cost of $1080.00 the first day and $80 a day for the remaining nine days.

6.     Select the resource on the Resource Usage view, click the Resource tab. Click Information.

7.     On the Resource Information property sheet. Click the dropdown menu next to Cost accrual and click End .

Note that all of the cost ($1800.00) is applied to the last day.
