SYMPTOMS

When a Windows 2000-based computer shuts down, it may generate a bugcheck with the following Stop message:
STOP 0x000000CE
The crashdump file may show Srv.sys as the source of the problem.

CAUSE

The Srv.sys driver can leave work items in the queue even after it unloads itself from memory. When the kernel tries to process the work items, the driver is not available, so Windows generates a bugcheck.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
