View Source Feature Incorrectly Uses the Cache when You Use HTTPS and the "Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk" Option

SYMPTOMS

In Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1), when you click View, and then click Source, you can save SSL-secured content to your hard disk even if you click to select the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box.

Note To find this check box, in Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and then look in the Security area.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

After you install this hotfix, if you load SSL-secured content while you have selected the Do not save encrypted page to disk option, the Source menu is not available.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.
