RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
Note The "Hotfix download available" form displays the languages for which the hotfix is available. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language.
To resolve this issue, you must apply MCPSRegFix. To apply this fix, follow these steps:
  1. Open a command prompt, type msiexec /a Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source Path\MCPSRegFix.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1 where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000 SR-1 CD 1, and Source Path is the path to the updated MSP file you extracted.

Note You must run this command from a computer on which the Microsoft Windows Installer is already installed.
  2. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box, click Next.

Note You do not have to type your CD Key or company name in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box.
  3. Click I accept the terms of the License Agreement, and then click Next.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. When the update is complete, click OK.

Your administrative installation point is now updated with the .msp file.
  6. Open a command prompt, type msiexec /a Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source Path\MCPSRegFix.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1 where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000 SR-1 CD 2, and Source Path is the path to the updated MSP file you extracted.
  7. When the update is complete, click OK.

Your Office 2000 administrative installation point is now updated with the .msp file.
  8. Install Office 2000 from the updated administrative share point.

Use the Setuppro.exe file to install CD 1, and the Setup.exe file to install CD 2.
