On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you try to open a workbook, you receive the following
error message: Unable to read file. CAUSEThis problem may occur if the file contains damage to
different portions of the file structure. Microsoft Excel 2002 detects the
first piece of damage, and then tries to repair it by starting Excel in Safe
mode. Excel then detects the remaining damage in the document, and then tries
to restart itself in a minimal-load mode. This second attempt to restart Excel
fails, and the symptom occurs. RESOLUTIONService Pack InformationThis problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. This problem was first corrected in Office XP
Service Pack 3. MORE INFORMATIONExcel Minimal-Load mode occurs if Excel loads into memory
the absolute minimum necessary to run itself.
